Civil Construction

Site demolition, earthwork, grading, and site preparation for large commercial and public projects.

Overview

Built around our own crews and fleet.

Civil site work is the core of what we do — roughly 70% of our business. We handle demolition, mass and structural excavation, grading, and finish site preparation with our own crews, fleet, and materials, and put a dedicated site superintendent on every job. That means general contractors get a single accountable partner who moves with the schedule and delivers to spec, from the first cut to final grade.

What we do

Our civil construction scope.

Specialized scopes we handle for general contractors, developers, and public agencies.

01

Earthwork & Excavation

From mass grading to structural excavation, we move dirt at scale with our own equipment and operators. We handle cut-and-fill, borrow, and export in coordination with our trucking and material supply, keeping the earthwork phase efficient and on spec for the general contractor.

  • Mass excavation and cut-and-fill
  • Structural and basement excavation
  • Overexcavation and unsuitable soil correction
  • Borrow, import, and export
  • Structural fill placement and compaction
02

3D Modeling & Drone Quantity Verification

We fly our own drone surveys and build 3D earthwork models in-house, so grade, volumes, and progress are measured instead of estimated. Quantities are verified against the model throughout the job, giving general contractors and owners an accurate, defensible record of the dirt we move.

  • Drone surveying and site mapping
  • 3D earthwork modeling
  • Cut-and-fill quantity verification
  • Progress tracking and as-built surfaces
  • GPS machine control model prep

03

Grading & Site Preparation

We take a site from rough grade to build-ready — subgrade preparation, building pad prep, and finish grading to tight tolerances. Precise site preparation prevents rework downstream and keeps the whole project schedule intact.

  • Rough and finish grading
  • GPS machine-controlled grading
  • Building pad preparation
  • Subgrade preparation and compaction
  • Grade raises above flood elevation
04

Erosion Control & Site Restoration

We install and maintain erosion and sediment control and handle large-scale site restoration and stabilization — the finishing civil scope that protects a completed site and satisfies stormwater requirements. This is also where our larger commercial landscaping and grading-to-final work lives.

  • Silt fence, wattles, and inlet protection
  • Construction entrances
  • BMP installation and maintenance
  • Topsoil placement and final grading
  • Seeding and site stabilization
05

Site Demolition

Our crews handle site and structure demolition to prepare a site for new construction, handling teardown, removal, and haul-off in one coordinated scope. Our crews and fleet clear the site cleanly and on schedule so the next phase can start without costly delays.

  • Building and structure demolition
  • Foundation, slab, and pavement removal
  • Clearing and grubbing of trees and vegetation
  • Debris loading, haul-off, and disposal
  • Site cleanup and rough grading after demo

Bellevue Bay Waterpark

Bellevue, NE

Earthwork for the Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark at Bellevue Bay, a city-owned, 140,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor waterpark at the center of Bellevue’s 575-acre Good Life District. Leick crews handled the basement excavation, basement backfill, and retaining walls.

Heavy Highway Grade Raise

Mills County, IA

The project consisted of 7,000 LF of heavy highway construction for the Department of Transportation west of Pacific Junction. Leick furnished and installed approximately 300,000 CY of structural fill material to provide the grade raise for a new bridge over the BNSF Railroad.
